Description

Aching for a weekend on a farm? Fresh air, crackling fireplaces, delicious farm fare and views forever over the vineyards and along the mighty Swartberg mountain range in the Klein Karoo at Boesmanskop are guaranteed to fill up your soul. Walking through the gardens, brushing scented geranium and sometimes discovering a curious ostrich, is hard to believe this remains one of the most beautiful and secluded valleys on a dirt road off Route 62. Stepping through the doorway into the thick-walled homestead thats filled with family heirlooms and has been in Tinie Bekkers pioneering family since 1759 is like stepping back in time, but after recent renovation (one would never guess) its now welcoming guests just as warmly as ever.Tinies an insatiable collector and hes filled Boesmanskop with personal treasures gathered from all over the countryside while adding all the modern comforts we love. Even the elegant double-storey guest cottage that was built at back of the old house was designed around reclaimed yellowwood beams hed found in Oudtshoorn and looks as though it has been standing for years. Upstairs, a farm-style brass bed and patchwork quilts invite hours of blissful sleep and have views of the Swartberg, while the downstairs suite leads onto the peaceful stoep and pool a heavenly oasis in the glorious heat of summer. And whats there to do on this working farm? Plenty of walking (pack your Campers in summer, Hunters in winter) past vineyards and tobacco fields (at their best, a gorgeous green) and kids love Tinies ostrich hatchery. Ever the proud farmer, hell take them down to watch the egg turning and cracking of the shells when the chicks are ready to hatch. And when the days activities are over, wrap yourself in a pashmina and settle back, glass of local red wine in hand, and watch the last deep orange rays of the sun turn pale pink against the rugged blue mountains or snuggle up next to a roaring fire and relax before a dinner is served in the original dining room (typical of Karoo hospitality, dinner and breakfast can cooked for you, the ultimate treat for a stress-free weekend away!)Sleeps 6Bedrooms: One double upstairs and two double bedrooms downstairsBathrooms 2 Dining: Limited self-catering, but with dinner and breakfast on request. Definitely do dinner!Swimming pool (No cover)Pet friendly: (Tinie has three dogs and two cats)
